RESTORE YOUR SMILE WITH DENTAL IMPLANTS

DENTAL IMPLANTS: REPLACE MISSING TEETH AND RESTORE YOUR SMILE

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that provide a permanent base for fixed or removable replacement teeth. They're made from titanium and other materials that are compatible with the human body. They are designed to look and function like natural teeth and are a popular option for people who have lost one or more teeth due to injury, periodontal disease, or other reasons. It's important to keep in mind that dental implants require proper care, including regular brushing and flossing, to ensure their longevity and maintain good oral health. Your dentist will provide you with specific care instructions for your dental implants and will regularly check their fit and function during your routine dental check-ups.

WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS?

Dental implants are a long-lasting solution for missing teeth and provide many benefits, including improved oral function, increased confidence, and a more natural-looking smile. They are also easier to care for than traditional dentures and do not require special adhesives. A dental implant consists of three parts: the implant post, the abutment, and the crown. The implant post is made of biocompatible material, such as titanium, and is surgically placed into the jawbone to replace the missing tooth root. The abutment is a small connector that attaches the implant post to the crown, and the crown is the visible portion of the tooth that is custom-made to match the surrounding teeth in colour and shape.

THE BENEFITS OF DENTAL IMPLANTS

The biggest benefits of dental implants are that they look and feel like natural teeth. They blend in seamlessly with your existing teeth, giving you a natural-looking smile. Unlike dentures, which can slip and shift in your mouth, dental implants are securely anchored in place, allowing you to eat, speak, and smile with confidence. Another benefit of dental implants is that they're durable and long-lasting. With proper care, they can last for many years, sometimes even a lifetime. This makes them a great investment in your oral health. In addition to their aesthetic benefits, dental implants also have functional benefits. They help to maintain the shape of your face and prevent your remaining teeth from shifting. This is important because if your remaining teeth shift, it can lead to bite problems and affect your jaw joint.

WHY WOULD I NEED A DENTAL IMPLANT?

There are many reasons why you may need dental implants, including missing one or more teeth due to injury, decay, or gum disease. They can also be used to support a bridge or denture, making them a versatile solution for many dental patients. It's important to note that dental implants are not for everyone. To determine if you're a good candidate for dental implants, it's best to schedule a consultation with an experienced dentist. Dental implants require the availability of healthy bone at the placement site. During your consultation, your dentist will examine your mouth, take X-rays, and discuss your medical history to determine if dental implants are the best option for you. Woodbourne Dental specialises in dental implants and other complex dentistry procedures. WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR GETTING A DENTAL IMPLANT?

The process of getting dental implants typically requires multiple visits to the dentist and may take several months to complete, as the implant will require time to incorporate into your jawbone and natural bone. During the first visit, the implant post will be placed into the jawbone. Over the next several months, the implant post will fuse with the jawbone in a process known as osseo-integration. Once the implant post has integrated with the jawbone, the abutment and crown will be attached to complete the dental implant.
